With a staggering 111 million Instagram followers, Kim Kardashian is up there as one of the most influential social media personalities. As a seasoned professional promoter, Kardashian is no stranger to having companies approach her to endorse their products.
Her latest post seemed like any of her other heavily edited posts, but the message behind the product was actually much more sinister.
The caption of the post reads:
” #ad You guys… @flattummyco just dropped a new product. They’re Appetite Suppressant Lollipops and they’re literally unreal. They’re giving the first 500 people on their website 15% OFF so if you want to get your hands on some… you need to do it quick! #suckit “
Social media users went to town abusing Kardashian, with claims that her latest sponsored post is promoting eating disorders.
British actress Jameela Jamil who is known for her role in The Good Place weighed in on Twitter posting a scathing message to the socialite. The insanely positive response saw Jamil post a series of other tweets promoting body positivity and female empowerment.
Melanie Hajizadeh is an avid social media user and is enthralled by the Kardashian’s and their influence on young women, but she was disgusted by the motives behind this post.
“Kim Kardashian is wealthy yet she is advertising a lollipop as a meal replacement,” she told Dscribe.
“Young girls will buy this product, and posts like this increases eating disorders and promotes an unrealistic way to lose weight.”
