While nothing may beat the muffins at Caffeine or the burgers at Sage, sometimes it doesn’t hurt getting away from Deakin University’s Burwood campus to refresh, and re-energise for the long afternoon haul.

That is why I have rounded up five of the closest cafes, all within two kilometres of the campus.

From French toast to avocado bagels, each of these places should have something to satisfy when you need a break from campus life.

Dosage Café

Bagels have been taken to the next level at Dosage. Playing on the name of the café, Dosage includes syringes full of saucy delicacy that gives the bagel something a little extra. You’ll never want a regular bagel again.

Sketches Cafe

I originally ordered the banana bread but they had ran out so they gave me French toast instead. I’m not sure if it’s actually on the menu but, here’s a secret for you, next time you’re there ask for the French toast, it’s everything.

Zous Café

Ensure you go on a sunny day so you can sit in the courtyard. The burger and the coffee arrived with a speed that anyone would appreciate. For anyone who is unsure on sweet potato fries, don’t be, these ones were the best around.

Jacked up Coffee

Full of plants, natural light, wooden benches – this is a hipster’s dream café. Yep, they still serve ham and cheese toasties at 3.45pm. Breakfast really can be enjoyed all day everyday.

The Good Vibes Café

Sometimes the smallest cafes are the best cafes. The combination of a latte with a peanut bar is something everyone needs to treat themselves to on a Friday afternoon. My tip, on the couch near the window, bring a book, you’ll be there for hours.
