Former Triple J radio host Alex Dyson’s low-budget promotional video proved a hit during his campaign as an Independent in the seat of Wannon at this month’s federal election.

And seems Dyson’s viral dance routine may have actually worked at the ballot box as he gained more primary votes than both United Australia Party’s Joshua Wallace and the Greens candidate Zephlyn Taylor.

Passionate, expressive dance moves and intense glares at the camera were aplenty throughout the video, while the candidate’s policies were highlighted in bright yellow at the bottom.

Policies described by the candidate through the medium of dance were “forward thinking environmental policies, investment in renewable energy, upgraded transport options, greater focus on mental health and independence from the Canberra bubble”.

After the election, Dyson said: “Clive Palmer spent $80 million on his campaign. I ruined my dad’s $12 tie and I ended up getting more votes than him in Wannon. I think it shows good ideas trump money.”

He claims he has promised to continue his political endeavours after a much needed break from the limelight.

VOTE 1- Alex Dyson for Wannon. A different kind of politician….#Auspol #ratdog4PM ..Thanks Hightop Media for the vid, and Alice Ivy for the music.
