The Marvel film franchise as we currently know it comes to an end with Avengers Endgame. The movie takes place after the events of Avengers Infinity War where Thanos (Josh Brolin) snapped his fingers and wiped out half of all humanity after collecting the six converted infinity stones.
The film combines the characters of 22 films spanning 11 years, bringing back some familiar faces and introducing a few new ones to the Avengers concept. The concept works so well having all of these characters intertwined within this universe and combining the whit and charisma of these characters in a somewhat dark film. The film hinges on the idea of Earth’s mightiest heroes coming back from adversity and looking failure right in the eye as they begin the journey to bring their family and friends back from the dust.
The three-hour long cinematic journey is filled with unmissable moments and a sense of trials and tribulations for the most part. But Endgame does have some prolonged and gruelling scenes which stretch the film out and often feel tenuous. They don’t add any real substance to the movie subplot and instead focus on a character’s background that in some cases has already been established in previous films.
The end credit scene in Endgame‘s predecessor Infinity War saw Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) being paged by Shield Boss Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson). This set up her introduction in the Marvel universe culminating in her own film. Unfortunately, her role in Endgame is very much underwhelming, leaving fans asking ‘where is she’?
Avengers Endgame is several things – it’s tragic, twisted, exhilarating and satisfying and leaves audiences wondering what comes next?
