Now we all know that Stan has increased its popularity tenfold by adding our favourite Disney movies, but what about TV shows?
Having to compete with one of the most successful streaming services, Netflix, Stan is upping its game with alternative TV shows.
Here are my top five picks to help you out on a rainy day:
The Bold Type
I mean, what is there to say about this series except ‘serious girl power’? While technically it could be considered a ‘chick flick’, it’s really more about empowerment in the workforce and women just helping each other out. It’s lighthearted while still dealing with important issues within friend groups and work settings. A must watch for anyone wanting some binge-worthy television.
The Handmaid’s Tale
Now this one takes a darker angle and generates some serious addiction. Set in a city where women are used and abused by men so they can have children, it follows the tragic and triumphant happenings of a particular handmaid. This series not only keeps you on the edge of your seat, but it gives you a different kind of perspective about life and what to cherish.
Ru Paul’s Drag Race
Who doesn’t love watching strong and gorgeous queens become the most confident version of themselves? With fierce competition and so much drama, Ru Paul’s Drag Race is something for the whole family to enjoy. Not to mention Ru Paul is the host of all hosts, showing people that “if you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you going to love somebody else?” Oh, and who can forget the legendary lip sync battles that are bound to get you up and dancing.
Friends
Having no way to watch Friends unless it randomly came on normal television, or if you forked out your savings for a DVD set, Stan decided to change the game. Using five best friends to showcase the trials and tribulations of adulthood while being comically genius, really makes this series a winner. With the addition of memorable catch phrases and cheeky easter eggs, Ross, Rachael, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe and Monica become your new best friends.
The Office
Anyone with a Facebook or Instagram account should know and appreciate this one, merely from the memes it produces. What basically helped kick start John Krasinskis’ career, the office is sure to keep you smiling. Hilarious and ridiculous, the series allows viewers to appreciate a time where there was a whole company dedicated to just selling paper.
